I was reading a book the other day on the subject of leadership, particularly business leadership. The concept that was being discussed has been around for a while and challenges leaders to dream of BHAG’s for the future of their companies. (see below) I was thinking about these BHAG’s. These BHAG’s make us think outside of the box, dream big, aim for something out of the ordinary. They should not be limited to a business, but also be applicable to our individual lives. These BHAG’s can also make a difference in our churches, our communities and our families.
For the uninitiated, a BHAG is a BIG, HAIRY, AUDACIOUS GOAL! I love this concept. How often do we ‘dumb down’ vision in different spheres of our lives. We limit ourselves, and in turn, we limit our impact in our world. The apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 3:20 ‘Now to him who is able to do in full measure more than all our desires or thoughts, through the power which is working in us’. God thinks in larger concepts, bigger ways and outside of the box, He has been working with BHAG’s for centuries now. This passage from Ephesians opens up a wonderful thought that God is into ‘out of the box’ thinking. When we think of great plans, He says He is able to do more. When we place Him first in our lives, there is so much that can be done to benefit ourselves and others.
Do you have any big hairy audacious goals for your family? Do you have any big hairy audacious goals for your _______? How about sitting down, talking with others and writing some goals for the future.
